Spring sun warms the hive

Queen Uma’s bees are flying

My heart is hopeful

Winter took its toll

Queen Xanthe is here no more

Cold silent bee hive

Green buds unfolding

Promise of flowers growing

Bees will come again.

Christmas Presents for the Bees

Merry Christmas, bees.

Queen Xanthe’s hive now has an insulating cork sleeve around the brood box, and a sugar board above it. And the second sugar board will be ready to go on Queen Uma’s hive tomorrow.

New cork sleeve installed today on Queen Uma’s hive. The hive has an extra brood box on top to raise the roof above the top of the cork - a shorter box would be better so I’ll swap it out - or I might rest the roof directly on the cork sleeve.

Frosty Morning

It’s frosty out here.

I’m working on a hive insulation project. More on that to follow. For now, here are some photographs of the frosty apiary.
